Current status:
The Mirandese language, the second official language of Portugal, remains a strong symbol of identity but faces challenges of intergenerational transmission and presence in the daily lives of younger generations. Although integrated into cultural and formal educational contexts, its use remains residual in the digital and media spaces where young people spend much of their time. Recent awareness and documentation initiatives have shown potential, but the language continues to have little visibility on digital platforms, social media, video games, or other widely disseminated cultural productions.
Partner’s view:
ALCM recognizes the importance of updating the presence of the Mirandese language in digital contexts and in the daily lives of younger generations. In the previous edition, ideas emerged such as creating a virtual persona, games, or daily-life practices in Mirandese, which were only conceptualized and prototyped at an initial stage. The current challenge is to move forward with more consistent and feasible solutions.
Challenge:
How might we develop innovative solutions that bring the Mirandese language to the center of digital and everyday experiences for younger generations — whether through virtual characters, games, applications, or micro-practices of language use — in order to strengthen its vitality and contemporary relevance?
